"I was never a class clown," says comedian Sean Patton. "I was more of a 'smokin' weed with his friends in the backyard while skipping school' clown. I was pretty shy, believe it or not. I knew I had a sense of humor, I just didn't think anyone would get me." It was after seeing Mr. Show on television that Patton realized maybe his sense of humor wasn't that offbeat. He reacted instantly: "That's how I think. That's the stuff I think is funny. Other people think this is funny?" After dropping out of college, he decided to finally try standup. "People always ask me, 'What was your backup plan?' I never had one." He knew he was headed down a tough road, but he soldiered on, eventually establishing his comedy voice. He's found a sizable following by really exploring comedy theory. "[I like to take] the obvious funny joke," he says, "but go three steps past that so people say, 'Hey, where did that come from?'" Sometimes that loses folks. "A lot of people take me seriously, or get offended. Don't you understand, I'm joking?" 18+.
