Sean Kent

"I'm really excited to come back to Minnesota," says comedian Sean Kent. "[You have] some of smartest crowds in the country, if not the smartest." Kent's comedy is certainly more enjoyable for those who know what's happening in society and in the news. "Everyone [in Minnesota] reads the paper and knows what's going on. I don't have to censor myself." While he doesn't talk strictly about current events, he notes that even his observational jokes will make you think. "If you're the kind of person who only has polite conversations, my observational humor may make you go, 'Oh, goodness.' I don't do stuff like, 'Why do people who skydive wear helmets?' I go for the throat a lot." Sometimes he doesn't even know what's going to be the subject of his comedic wrath until he gets onstage. "I have so much material now, and if I feel it's a good crowd and I can expand, something may just pop into my head and it will grow from there." Ideas can come from a conversation with his wife, a comment from the crowd, or the news. "Coming up with material, because of how much I work, isn't easy, but it's not an issue." He also feels that continued growth helps. "So you have new stuff to talk about," he explains. "Now I'm a father. So I have that to talk about, the political landscape is changing, and I'm always reading books. I just need the intensity of that moment." 18+.
