Rural Design: A New Design Discipline
Minneapolis architect Dewey Thorbeck built a much-lauded practice largely on designs for agricultural architecture and his leadership on rural-design issues. He even founded the Center for Rural Design at the University of Minnesota, and serves as its director. This month, Routledge publishes his new book, Rural Design: A New Design Discipline, and an accompanying exhibition opens in the HGA Gallery in the Rapson Hall at the U (the College of Design's East Bank location). The book and the drawings on exhibition examine how human and natural systems are intertwined, and easily damaged, in rural areas, and propose new approaches to sustainable land use from a global to local perspective. There will be a related talk and book signing at 6 p.m. Monday, February 4.
