Rockstar Storytellers

In the last year, the storytelling sound-system Rockstar Storytellers have made the transition from upstart group to Twin Cities spoken-word staple. Their performances at the Bryant-Lake Bowl remain greatly entertaining, and they've diversified their investment in the local scene by introducing their own open mic, Word Ninjas, at Kieran's Irish Pub, where they welcome newbies and veterans alike to try out new material or practice the old. To celebrate the holiday season, the Rockstars are changing venues for the evening, appearing at the Theatre Garage on a double bill with Joseph Scrimshaw's sad-Santa play, Fat Man Crying. Hosted by Scrimshaw himself, the night will feature skewed views of Christmas from energetic tellers Laura Bidgood and phillip low, with likely more mordant tales from Amy Salloway and Courtney McLean. It's our kind of Christmas special—less the sappiness of A Christmas Carol and more the irony of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. $12. 10:30 p.m. 711 W. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis.
Fridays, 10:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 26. Continues through Dec. 26, 2008
