The 2016 installment of Rock the Garden will be a gardenless affair! The annual fest was relocated to Boom Island Park in northeast Minneapolis due to construction at its usual home outside the Walker Art Center. RTG features two stages instead of one this year, but it's also just a one-day party (the past two editions were spread over two days). Psych-rock favorites the Flaming Lips will bring their confetti-drenched carnival of a stage show to the headlining slot. They'll be preceded by Chance the Rapper, the adventurous, Kanye-collaborating, 23-year-old Chicago MC whose mixtape from May, Coloring Book
, scored universal critical praise; his career has exploded since RTG managed to snag him. The Twin Cities presence is strong with Lizzo's Grrrl Prty crew, hyper-polished young pop-rockers Hippo Campus, and politically charged synth-pop stars Poliça. Veteran indie-folk star M. Ward, blues-folk rockers Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, and Cali punks Plague Vendor also perform.
