Mystery Science Theater 3000
was unlike anything else on television. With each episode centered on a hilarious skewering of a deeply flawed film, broken only by equally ludicrous sketches, MST3K
earned a cult following that has endured long beyond the show's 1997 cancellation. In the years since, alumni have collaborated on other enterprises, most notably RiffTrax, which provides similarly witty commentaries on films and other forms of entertainment. Having reached their 10th year, the RiffTrax gang are hosting a one-night reunion with the rest of the original MST3K
cast and crew, including creator/original host Joel Hodgson, second host/writer Mike Nelson, and co-stars Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Mary Jo Pehl, and Bridget Nelson. This evening, they'll be riffing on mock-worthy educational shorts. The planned revival of MST3K
(estimated for late 2016) will be represented by yet another special guest, the show's next host, comedian Jonah Ray. Considering that MST3K
originally debuted on a local cable-access channel, it's only fitting that the Satellite of Love would be symbolically relaunched from the Twin Cities.
