Revolver Launch Party

Four hipsters square off in a boxing ring, black eyes oozing and fatigued muscles twitching, but ready for a fight. Bizarre fantasy? Nope. This is what you'll find at the launch party for Revolver, a brand-new literary arts and culture magazine in town. The festive brawl will be happening this Saturday at Uppercut Boxing Gym. Why boxing at a literary event? "We want people to get that Revolver is about passion, about fighting for what you care about. Boxing is a pretty good way to communicate that," says Luke Finsaas, one of the publication's editors. Locals Courtney Algeo (Loft Literary Center, Paper Darts), Tony D'Aloia, Sarah Moeding (producer of Literary Death Match Minneapolis), and Chris Baker will face off against each other in the boxing tournament. DJ Shannon Blowtorch will be spinning tunes, and attendees are encouraged to check out the eats and libations from Bin Wine Bar and Chef Shack, the roaming painted people, and the Polaroid storytelling during festivities. The magazine currently lives mostly online (, but is set to publish two print editions a year. Esther Porter, yet another editor, says that the folks behind Revolver "decided to have a decentralized editorial process so that more types of stories could find their way to publication." In a market steeped with quality literary magazines, Revolver is making a bold, rowdy, and possibly bloody entrance, ensuring a unique role in the literary scene.
