Revolver at the Ritz: 12 Experiments
Over the years, the local literary journal Revolver has brought us social, collaborative, and performative experiments with a flair for art and literature. Its next happening will continue this trend and, according to a press release, will "explore the intersection of words and risk." "The event is going to have all the crazy fun and dark weirdness people have come to expect," says editor Esther Porter. The event is co-sponsored the Ritz, Coffee House Press, and the Playwrights' Center, and will include 12 experiments involving writers, artists, and the audience. Science and poetry will collide in "Etherized Upon a Table" with New York Times Magazine science columnist Maggie Koerth-Baker. In another experiment, titled "The Pitch," authors Mary Kihn and Sarah Stonich will endeavour to pitch one classic piece of literature to Graywolf Press's Katie Dublinsky and Chris Fischbach and Anitra Budd of Coffee House Press. The catch? They can't use any key words that will give the novel away. In experiment number 11, a.k.a. "Greco Times New Roman," poets John Colburn and Nicky Tiso will wrestle (yes, you read that correctly), referencing Revolver's launch party where they convinced writers to box at Uppercut Boxing Gym. The night will close with the audience writing a song with local author and musician Dylan Hicks.
