RetroRama is back at the Minnesota History Center, and the 21+ crowd is invited to wear their favorite vintage attire for an evening of fashion, music, drinks, and fun. In an effort to honor the museum's current feature exhibit, "We the People: The First Official Printing of the U.S. Constitution," and to celebrate 2012 being an election year, the evening's theme will involve both politics and fashion. "We're looking at some moments when history collided with fashion, starting with the suffrage movement and prohibition, and moving into the 1970s with the Equal Rights Amendment," says Aleah Vinick, adult audience specialist for the Minnesota History Center. "We're getting political, but in a really fun way." A highlight of the event will be a fashion show featuring local designers Emma Berg, Danielle Everine, Max Lohrbach, Samantha Rei, and Christopher Straub. Each designer was asked to create garments inspired by history and by the exhibit. "I think we're seeing some of the most talented designers in the Twin Cities applying their skills to a really interesting idea," Vinick says. In addition to the fashion show, guests will enjoy music by the Southside Aces, a gin sampling by Nick Kosevich and Ira Koplowitz of Bittercube bitters and Bombay Sapphire Gin, Blingo with Ellie Blades, and shopping at vintage pop-up boutiques Blacklist Vintage, the Spectacle Shoppe, and Flamingo's Divine Finds. For those who don't want the festivities to end at 11 p.m., the fun continues at the Amsterdam Bar with music, plus food and drink specials. 21+.
