Red, White, and Boom!
Celebrate the Fourth of July with a bang at the Red, White, and Boom! festival on Nicollet Island. This summer salute to our country's independence is filled with two days of family activities and entertainment. First, take part in the Hot Dam 5k Fun Run on Sunday starting at Father Hennepin Park. Walk or jog through some of the most scenic areas in Minneapolis, taking in natural views of the river right in the heart of the city near the Stone Arch Bridge. In the early evening, listen to local music favorite Communist Daughter at the Nicollet Island Pavilion. After the music, watch the brilliant and ultra-rich ladies' man Tony Stark take on the formidable Ivan Vanko in the hit superhero movie Iron Man 2. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. Want to work off all those hotdogs and popsicles? Register for the Twin Cities Half Marathon on Monday for a refreshing way to start off Independence Day, and then check out the four different live music stages around the park with bands playing all afternoon and into the evening. Let the kids enjoy activities sponsored by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and Radio Disney over at Father Hennepin Bluff Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Get ready for the big fireworks extravaganza at the end of the night and commemorate America's birthday with a boom. Evening events start at 7 p.m. Sunday with the movie screening at dusk; music starts at 3:30 p.m. with fireworks set for 10 p.m. Monday. (Photo by edmenendez)
