This week, Daniel Alexander Jones returns to the Twin Cities in the guise of his alter ego, Jomama Jones, for a 10-performance engagement of Radiate Live! In the show, Jones takes on the guise of Jomama, a tough R&B singer who made a name for herself in the early 1980s with hits like "Afromatic," and by appearing in the cult classic Sister Soul and the Colonizers from Mars. Jomama, however, had her issues with the politics of the era, and left the country and her career behind. Now, she's back from Europe and ready to share her personal story of disillusionment and empowerment. Jones (the Daniel version) spent time as a performer in the Twin Cities in the 1990s and has had several of his works produced on area stages, including Bel Canto and Phoenix Fabrik at Pillsbury House. While the idea of Jomama goes back a number of years, the current incarnation — featuring music by Bobby Halverson — is a more recent creation, having debuted in New York to strong reviews, and is now ready to come full circle back to the Twin Cities.
