Punk Rock Extravaganza

Arise! Bookstore was created in 1993 by the Arise! Collective, a group that seeks the end of discrimination, political oppression, and economic inequality through activism and information dissemination. The store serves as a meeting space and resource center, carrying harder-to-find books on liberation struggles. This Sunday, the store will host a group of subversive punk writers, editors, and live music. Sean Carswell, the co-editor of both punk magazine Razorcake and independent publisher Gorsky Press, will read from Train Wreck Girl. Carswell's characters are mostly working-class, and fans of his writing appreciate that he manages to create stories that neither romanticize nor martyr blue-collar workers. Also reading tonight is Joe Meno, whose past works have been featured in McSweeney's and online at Playboy.com. Mickey Hess and Sam Richard round out the stellar lineup, with local cute-core band Bla Bla Blacksheep providing tunes.
