Printed Textiles: Pattern Stories

Fresh off its provocative exhibition of innovative, sustainably designed fashion, the little museum that can and does, the Goldstein Museum of Design, has assembled a lovely collection of printed textiles. Curators Jean McElvain and Kathleen Campbell have lifted from archival obscurity evocative pieces of cloth that tell stories past and present. While some of the textiles reflect current trends in popular culture, others evoke narratives through representation, weaving techniques, or backstories as the product of well-known artists and designers. Who can remember when the stuff of which our clothes are made was treated with such care and artistry? (Ruth Reeves, West Point, 1933. Gift of University Gallery, University of Minnesota)
