Prices and locations vary
It's been a rough couple of weeks. But now that Pride weekend is here, it's important to come together as a community and share the love. Before the main festival kicks off on Saturday, quite a few places are hosting dance parties and other celebrations where the joy will be infectious and the tunes will be unstoppable. Hipshaker, an awesome and inclusive night featuring deep soul and funk jams spanning decades, will take over the Kitty Cat Klub Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. (Admission is $5.) If you'd like to arrive via bike, consider meeting up with the 30 Days of Biking crew, who will be enjoying ice cream at Izzy's around 8-ish, and rolling out on a slow bike ride at 8:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Flip Phone will be at Rev Ultra Lounge on Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a healthy dose of Rihanna and Nicki Minaj tunes. Naomi Smalls from RuPaul's Drag Race
will also be there and fabulous. (Admission is 21+ and $10.) As usual, the Saloon will be going all out, with three days of drag, DJs, and more on their daily schedule. Finally, Grown & Sexy Pride will return Friday night at First Avenue for an evening of performance and dance music. Trans activist Carmen Carrera from RuPaul's Drag Race
will be there, and there will be sexy sets from burlesque beauties Nadine DuBois and Sweetpea. Dykes Do Drag will be on hand, as will DJ Shannon Blowtorch. (Tickets are $15 and the show is 18+.) Other places worth checking out include Coup D'Etat, Café and Bar Lurcat, and Union, as well as Saturday night's Booby Trap at Rouge the Lounge, which will benefit Outfront Minnesota. (Tickets are $10.) Before heading to the bars, restaurants, and dance clubs, consider showing your pride at the TransDykeQueer March, which will be meeting on Friday at 5 p.m. at Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral
(519 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis) and making its way through the area in jubilant fashion.
