Theatergoers with eclectic cravings should have already taken note of the exceedingly diverse lineup for Theatre in the Round Players' 61st season. Few companies, for example, would follow an ancient comedy by Greek scribe Aristophanes (Lysistrata) with a feverish dramatic scorcher by Tennessee Williams (Summer and Smoke). Those looking for literary adaptations will also find gratification in the form of a high-spirited adventure from Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island), a murder mystery from Agatha Christie (Appointment with Death), and the memoir of a most unusual long-distance relationship by Helene Hanff (84, Charing Cross Road). Contemporary playwrights will similarly be represented via a searing examination of grief by David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), an area premiere by irreverent British humorist Alan Ayckbourn (Life and Beth), and a slice-of-life comedy focused on three old friends grappling with their golden years by Ludmilla Bollow (In the Rest Room at Rosenblooms). Of course, no self-respecting theater season would be complete without a place for the Bard (All's Well That Ends Well). If the ambition of this season looks head-spinning on paper, true amazement awaits those attending the annual one-night-only event known as Previews. Held as a fundraiser for the company, the evening is a theatrical gambit wherein performers enact scenes from each of the upcoming season's nine featured works, trusting that even the most demanding audiences will be lining up for more. $35. 6 p.m. 245 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis; 612.333.3010.
