Prelude Series No. 1: Antarctica
This Friday marks the start of a new series at Public Functionary. Prelude will take place between art exhibitions in the space, offering site-specific happenings with performances in mediums not typically seen in art galleries. The debut performance, dubbed "Antarctica," will feature a soundscape from local experimental musician Chris Strouth and his band, Paris1919. The composition's title has little to do with the recent Polar Vortex, however. Strouth created the piece while recovering from a kidney transplant a few years back. While the process of healing may have been lonely and isolating, he won't be alone this evening. Choreographer Deborah Jinza Thayer will lead a troupe of dancers in a new work, Vid Tiger and animator Justin Guenther will collaborate to create a variety of projections throughout the space, and resident artist Asia Ward will present a glacial installation.
Feb. 7-8, 7:30 & 9:30 p.m., 2014
