For obvious reasons, hardcore/noise-rock records are never the trendiest stuff out there. But with February's Honeys, Pennsylvania's Pissed Jeans delivered a masterpiece of their form, 12 songs that stand out compared to the band's first three albums because of their exceptional quality rather than any purely sonic tics. Over seasick riffage and a consistently brutal rhythm section, frontman Matt Korvette once again proves himself one of the more capable vocalists in all of heavy music, mixing in plenty of his trademark sardonic humor along the way. While occasionally similar bands like Ceremony and Fucked Up are doing X Games commercials and labyrinthine concept albums, respectively, Pissed Jeans are busy being a pummeling, frills-free quartet at their peak.
