Tamara Ober tells and dances this original story of a Candide kind of gal who loses everything—her money, her way—but finds herself in the process. Using a bench, a stool, and a low-slung microphone that she has to dip and flatten herself to reach, Ober as the wildly imaginative Pipa channels dreams, meets up with magicians and high-wire artists on her way to the supermarket, and vainly chases a butterfly all the way to a rooftop. She narrates her story in many different voices (some live, some recorded), but it's her sinuous, ingenious moves that animate this enchanting tale.
