Pick Your Persona: A Cindy Sherman Ball
How much does fashion inform performance art? Quite a lot in the case of Cindy Sherman's work, as she uses clothing, makeup, and body language to transform herself into a variety of characters. This Thursday, revelers at the Walker will examine how fashion and performance interplay with a high-energy celebration. Here, the runway will not merely be a conveyor for blank models in clothing. Rather, it will become a stage. Taking the museum's current exhibition of Sherman's photography as inspiration, fashion designer Emma Berg and Xavier Rucker from the Twin Cities performance community will team up for an epic walk-off. The evening should be a wild one, with an extra dose of kitsch, camp, humor, gender play, and politics. (Pictured: Fashion from Emma Berg's Que Sera Sera collection)
