Peter Becker Nelson
For his latest project, video artist Peter Becker Nelson examines the unique perspectives that childhood friends have on each other. For the untitled piece, Becker Nelson recorded interviews with his four best friends from youth. He then videotaped his re-enactments of these talks, performing in various costumes while lip-syncing to each monologue. The result is a humorous and at times touching exploration of friendship, perspective, and the experiences of four boys growing up in Minnesota. In another piece, titled Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, he interviewed his parents on the triumphs and struggles of their 35-year marriage. Using these recordings, he and his wife acted out those stories while wearing masks. Though these works, which will screen tonight at the Third Place Gallery, are highly personal, at the root of both projects are topics and subject matter that are highly relatable. The screening will be followed by karaoke and ping pong. (Image courtesy of the artist)
