Pete Lee

Wisconsin native Pete Lee came to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. After graduating with a journalism degree he worked in advertising before giving standup comedy a try. "After a couple of years of touring I decided to move to New York," he explains, "to try and get on TV more, and it totally worked. It was a good gamble." The move also helped him find his voice as a comic. "I realized how infused in me that Midwestern sensibility is, especially when it was juxtaposed with how mean New York's is. That's when I realized who I was." For a time he has a wimpy guy in a seemingly manly world, but his rabid interest in football has changed that a bit. He even shot a pilot for a show on the NFL Network after execs there saw his internet sports show. It wasn't his hosting skills that first drew them to the comedian, though. "I think because I was using copyrighted material that I wasn't supposed to be using. Then they got wind of the show. 'We shouldn't shut this guy down, we should hire him.'" So, copyright infringement as a career boost? "I tried for so many years. I tried to make all the right moves. Who knew I would kind of get my big break by pissing people off?" 18+.
