Pen Pals Lecture Series: Sarah Vowell
Sarah Vowell is an author who somehow manages to combine the best parts of every genre in nonfiction writing with every facet of pop culture. She's part hardcore nerd, part sulky grunge kid, and part U.S. history professor. Vowell's books span an array of topics and adventures pertinent to modern American living, from the state of radio today, to the truth about the Puritans who founded our wildly unique country, to seeking out the sites of presidential assassinations while on an upbeat road trip. If you're not much of a reader (well, then you're probably not reading this...), you're most likely familiar with Vowell's biting wit as a contributor to This American Life, or as a regular guest on the much-missed Late Night with Conan O'Brien, or even as the voice of Violet, the teenage daughter in Pixar's The Incredibles. The Library Foundation of Hennepin County is featuring Vowell at two speaking engagements; proceeds will benefit the organization. Come listen to Vowell wow you with humor and feeling.
