Party in the Rec Room
Performed to capacity crowds each year, Party in the Rec Room is a one-woman improvisational tour-de-force during which Lorna Landvik, author and Brave New Workshop alumnus, solicits audience suggestions to create on-the-spot characters engaged in an infinite array of absurd situations. Lacking the safety net of a supporting troupe or a scripted narrative, Landvik must rely upon nothing more than her own formidable wit to keep her audiences laughing. That the results tend to hit riotous levels of humor is the greatest testament to Landvik's relentless comic chops. With the notable exception of the traditional blending of margaritas onstage, the content of each performance remains unique and unpredictable, each evening featuring an original creation governed by boisterous audience whims and Landvik's reliably charismatic responses. The end results exemplify the way spontaneous humor can spark when a talented comic is faced with the task of immediate innovation. To the fans lining up for sold-out shows year after year, such humor consistently proves Landvik the incomparably hysterical host of the most popular party in town.
Fridays-Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: Dec. 27. Continues through Jan. 12, 2013
