Paper Darts POP-UP: A Storefront for Storytellers
This summer, local literary magazine Paper Darts has corralled over 25 Twin Cities organizations to collaborate on a pop-up installation, dubbed "A Storefront for Storytellers." Paper Darts doesn't have a permanent residence, so the ongoing event will work as an experiment on what happens when there's a home base for local groups to get together and interact. Their almost two-month stint at SOOlocal is packed full of events sure to whet everyone's appetite, including the grand opening celebration this Friday, June 14, from 7 to 11 p.m. The evening will mark the launch of the magazine's fifth print issue. The night is two-tiered, so attendees can purchase $10 tickets to the publication party with local readers and performers (and secure a copy of Volume 5), or show up after 8:30 p.m. for the free open house featuring live music from Black Diet, technicolor GIF art, photos, a cash bar, and more. Volume 5 explores "how weird it is to be a human," says Courtney Algeo, editorial director of Paper Darts. "[The fifth issue is] going to make us not feel so alone in our weirdness." The publication includes fiction writers Marcus Lund, Mark Jordan Manner, and Kirsty Logan; poets Camille Rankine, Louisiana Lightsey, and Thomas Patrick Levy; and artwork by Frohawk Two Feathers, Alexandra Levasseur, and Joe Siness.
