Northern Spark: Projecting the City
Last year, Northern Spark took over St. Paul. This year, it returns to Minneapolis for an all-night celebration featuring pop-up exhibits, performances, dance parties, activities, and more. The happening launches at Orchestra Hall at 7 p.m. with a concert from Dosh, followed by opening ceremonies with the Current's Mark Wheat, Mayor Betsy Hodges, Mu Daiko, and Grrrl Prty. After that, large pockets of the city will be hopping with things to do, including 125 one-night-only projects by over 250 artists. Highlights include the return of awesome yarn bomber/visual artist HOTTEA, last seen in New York City creating the beautiful Rituals, which spanned the Williamsburg bridge. In the Twin Cities, he'll be making something even more ambitious underneath the Third Avenue Bridge. Other major points worth checking out include happenings at the Minneapolis Convention Center; the Walker Art Center, with Open Field and two new exhibits opening tonight; the Midtown Greenway, where the Greenway Glow Night Bike Ride will offer colorful installations along five-, seven-, and 10-mile routes; MCAD, where you'll find a giant swing ride open for all; and more.
