North Pole Reunion Family Day
While a cruel winter in Minnesota can feel like the arctic, it's obviously not. Twenty-five years ago on May 1, 1986, the Steger International Polar Expedition reached the North Pole. The team, which included three Minnesotans, traveled 1,000 miles with three tons of supplies for 25 days in -70°F temperatures. The anniversary of their arduous and ultimately successful journey will be celebrated at this family-friendly happening. Throughout the day, kids can enjoy hands-on activities exploring climate change and arctic life. Folks will also be able to meet with Will Steger and other team members, listen to live music, and answer trivia questions for prizes. Tuesday, the expedition group will rejoin to talk about their experiences during the dangerous trip. Reservations are required for the Tuesday lecture.
Sun., May 15, 12-4 p.m., 2011
