Are you seeking an atypical reading to spice up your spring literary schedule? Search no more. This Wednesday, local theater group Mixed Precipitation is teaming up with Coffee House Press for a dramatic performance of Norah Labiner's delicately mysterious new novel, Let the Dark Flower Blossom. The book explores twins Sheldon and Eloise Schell's memories as they chronicle their relationship with the provocative and wealthy Roman Stone, who has been murdered with a pair of scissors at his home. Sheldon and Roman's history as rival authors raises questions as to how far writers will go in search of a story. In Blossom, Labiner deftly writes in multiple voices, juxtaposing perspectives and memories to create a complex, detailed narrative arc. This creative, multifaceted approach succeeds, despite its complexity, thanks to Labiner's delicious use of language. And that's not all that's delicious: In addition to the dramatic performance, the event also features food from chef Chris Roberts (Piccolo, Patisserie 46), who will be serving a cake that is mentioned in the book. Coffee House Press publisher Chris Fischbach will be on hand as emcee. Labiner is the author of four novels and a Minnesota Book Award winner for Literary Fiction.
