Natalie MacMaster: Christmas in Cape Breton
This fiery Cape Breton fiddler inherited traditional Celtic music from Scottish ancestors who settled in Canada's Maritimes and her technical prowess at least partially from her great-uncle Charlie and uncle Buddy, both renowned fiddlers deep in the tradition. But her innovative infusions of jazz, bluegrass, and sly bits of rock and funk are purely her own, as is her unbridled enthusiasm and energy. She often step-dances as she plays, stoking the flames all around. This show is billed as "Christmas in Cape Breton," with the focus on the island's holiday traditions and MacMaster and her golden fiddle leading a four-piece band. Carols from near and far, and high-octane traditional fare from the craggy shores of Nova Scotia to the Highlands should get the holiday season off to a rousing start.
