Murder at the Masquerade

If over the course of an average evening out, one were to witness a stranger expire under suspicious circumstances, the reasonable response would be to contact the authorities. At events hosted by the Murder Mystery Company, however, the preferred action is to await the inevitable entrance of a private detective who seems all too eager to solicit even the most bizarre theories from the crowd. Rest assured that the "victim" in such cases is merely playing dead, just as the more eccentric guests could very well be actors. Then again, all attendees are encouraged to dress in costume and interact with the highly improvisational cast, so differentiating performer and audience member can be an exercise in ambiguity. Getting audiences involved in the action is a key goal of the Murder Mystery Company, a performance franchise whose success with homicide themed dinner theaters has led to the opening of regional troupes in cities across the country. The company's latest Twin Cities show, Murder at the Masquerade, unmasks foul play committed at an illustrious costume ball. Unstructured perhaps, but that's part of the appeal, as audiences debate the murderer's identity over a three-course meal. Highlighted by comic spontaneity, this is one homicide investigation that should leave audiences hungry for more. $60. See schedule at for times. 1910 S. Greely St., Stillwater; 888.643.2583.
