North Carolina trio Mount Moriah specialize in wide-ranging and deeply moving Americana. Band lynchpin Heather McEntire's spine-tingling voice sounds more than a bit like Emmylou Harris, but her backing band is stunning enough on their Merge Records debut, Miracle Temple, to confidently command an equal share of the spotlight. Encompassing both smoky back-roads balladry and surprisingly buoyant Dixieland rock — check out the Allman Brothers-styled guitar heroics closing out "Eureka Springs" — Mount Moriah might just be the South's strongest rural-rock ambassadors of the year. With Jesse Sykes. 18+.
