Monday Live Arts
Dancer, choreographer, and curator Laurie Van Wieren is one of the most tenacious, generous, and resilient artists around. One of the first performance artists in the Twin Cities (she once staged a dance on a frozen Lake of the Isles midwinter), she's also a tremendous supporter of new performance talent, largely through her monthly 9X22 series at Bryant-Lake Bowl. Most recently, she's bounced back from the collapse of the Southern Theater, where she was dance curator, to initiate a new program at the Ritz Theater. On the first Monday of every month, beginning this Monday, she'll host Monday Live Arts, a program showcasing four artists with "innovative and exploratory approaches to contemporary performance," she says. First up: the new-music quartet Jelloslave, a collaboration by dance and theater artists Emily Gastineau and Billy Mullaney, multidisciplinary artist Jaime Carrera, and installation and performance artist Leslie Kelman. Monday is industry night for dance and theater, so no excuses. See you there. (Pictured: Jaime Carrera)
