MN Opera Under the Stars: La Boheme
There's an undeniable grandeur inherent to the experience of entering a gilded performance hall to be immersed in the emotive opulence of the operatic form. Summer nights outdoors, however, possess a unique allure of their own, one capable of making even the most sumptuous settings seem stodgy by comparison. Realizing the captivating potential of alfresco performance, the Minnesota Opera will be hosting opera under the stars throughout the weekend, staging Puccini's famed La Bohème at three outdoor venues. Recounting the tumultuous love lives of bohemian artists in 1830s Paris, La Bohème has long reigned as a popular favorite of modern audiences. Even those with no opera experience will recognize the tragic romance at the story's core, as the narrative has been reused throughout history (most notably in the rock musical Rent). Supported by the Minnesota Opera Orchestra and Chorus, the family-friendly production features an exemplary cast headlined by tenor Harold Meer and soprano Karin Wolverton. Better still, each performance will be free, with a selection of dining options from local vendors. With the option of kicking back on a blanket in the grass, a night at the opera just got a whole lot more comfortable. For more info, visit www.mnopera.org/opera-under-the-stars.
