MN Musicians Vote No!
The fight for equal rights in Minnesota gets a raucous soundtrack this weekend, as a who's who of Twin Cities pop and rock icons team up to oppose the upcoming anti-gay marriage amendment ballot initiative. MN United for All Families and TakeAction MN have gathered together a two-night bill that'd be a big draw even without the cause behind it. Friday night features a special engagement by the legendary crew of punk demolition experts Dillinger Four, whose Versus God highlight "The Father, the Son, and the Homosexual/Single Parent" should have some special resonance in this context, while love enthusiast Har Mar Superstar, 2010 Picked to Click winners Pink Mink, and many others (including Mayda, Magic Castles and the Bombay Sweets) round out the bill. Saturday's set is heavier on the roots and rock, with Dave Pirner (pictured), Charlie Parr and Adam Levy sharing a bill with a band right at the center of the issue at hand -- Tripping Icarus, featuring outspoken Vikings punter and equal-marriage advocate Chris Kluwe. Both nights will be hosted by Ian Rans of "Drinking With Ian" and feature DJ sets by Shannon Blowtorch, while all attendees will receive a digital download of music by likeminded bands -- Doomtree, Free Energy, Tapes n' Tapes -- that will be there in spirit. 18+.
