Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week: The Shows
What was once a one-day celebration is now a three-day party. Tuesday night kicked off the Shows series with fashions from Christopher Straub, Lindsey Hopkins, and Nicole Larson. Looks continue to hit the runway Wednesday night with a nice variety of pieces. Marissa Bridges designs dresses and separates that are feminine without being too girly. Her past efforts have included bold colors, ombre effects, lace, and beachy color palettes. Adrienne Yancy's ArielSimone line specializes in made-to-order swimsuits and other garments. Finally, MAI will showcase fashion-forward athletic items for folks who want to look stylish while rock climbing, doing yoga poses, or sitting on a patio sipping a smoothie. Thursday evening will highlight the dramatic getups of Samantha Rei (Blasphemena's Closet) and Emma Berg. Berg, whose runway looks always make for a great show, hints on her website that she will once again be pairing whimsy with darkness. Her past projects have drawn inspiration from a variety of interesting and unexpected sources, including the work of local artist Frank Gaard, the tragicomedy of the news cycle, and Auntie Mame. Meanwhile, Samantha Rei's dresses and accessories play off of steampunk, Victorian, Lolita, and goth looks, with a touch of glam rocker pirate thrown in. The combined collections should make for a colorfully thoughtful conclusion to these three evenings of fashion. (Pictured: Fashion by Emma Berg, photo by Jonathan Chapman Photography)
