Minneapolis Art Lending Library
At a library you can check out books, albums, and CDs for free, but what about art? That's the general idea behind the Minneapolis Art Lending Library. The organization, which started up last June, invites folks to peruse its collection during bi-monthly open hours, and check out a work or two for a two-month period. Pieces available rotate and change with the seasons, and include prints, paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photography from local artists. Not only is participating an economical way to spruce up a space on a budget (of nothing), but it's also a pretty neat way to introduce art lovers to new talents around the cities. Last summer's open events were such a success that the group is now teaming up with Stevens Square Center for the Arts in order to reach more people. You can check out the current collection, and possibly take something home, during open hours this weekend.
