Mill City Oktoberfest
Is that the call of an oomp-pa-pa tooting in the distance? It's time to prepare your stein-swinging arm, as the best locavore Oktoberfest in Minneapolis takes place this Saturday. Mill City Museum's seventh annual happening will be held at the museum and neighboring Mill City Farmers' Market, which opens at 8 a.m. with a day full of German-tinged autumnal celebrations. Local chefs will be on hand for cooking demonstrations showcasing the jewels of this harvest season. There will be music courtesy of the Elk River German Band and the Bavarian Musikmeisters. The SG Edelweiss dancers will perform throughout the morning as well. But it just wouldn't be Oktoberfest without beer. Local craft brew samples will be available, beginning at 10 a.m., for as long as supplies last (no longer than 1 p.m.). Beer: It's what's for breakfast. (Plus, it's common knowledge that if you buy Brussels sprouts, they balance out the brew.) In addition to festivities, the market is in full swing, with many vendors selling produce at the peak of the late summer/early fall harvest. Ready-made grazing items will also be on hand from vendors including Chef Shack, the queens of the food-truck scene. The museum is hosting a few extra events indoors for just a few dollars more, too.
Sat., Sept. 28, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., 2013
