Mike Yamada, Victoria Ying
Disney Animation Studios' Mike Yamada and Victoria Ying, a husband-and-wife team, will be stopping in Minneapolis this week for an artists' talk at Minneapolis College of Art and Design before heading to nearby Glam Doll Donuts for a meet-and-greet. Yamada and Ying started their own design studio, Extracurricular Activities, as a way to pursue creative projects together outside of their day jobs. At the time, they were working at rival animation companies Dreamworks and Disney (they're now both at Disney). At the talk, the duo will share insights about their work and process, chat about their personal projects — which include a children's book, original artwork, and workshops — and share thoughts about working in the visual development and concept art industry. The event is co-sponsored by Soo Visual Arts Center, as the organization continues to provide social mingling opportunities for the Twin Cities creative community. (Photo by Ever Whim)
