Midwest Tomato FestMidwest Tomato Fest Event Site
Folks who like to play with their food and aren't afraid to get dirty will want to check out this weekend's Midwest Tomato Fest. The festival starts off with a food fight of anarchy that sort of resembles dodge ball with tomatoes. Here, players will be encouraged to throw, smash, and squish the acidic fruit — all of which have been deemed inedible and would have otherwise been tossed — at as many people as possible. Wear goggles, as tomato juice stings, and be prepared to get gross. New this year is something called the "aftermath shower tunnel," which we suspect will greatly aid in preparing festival-goers for the second portion of the event, which includes a beer garden, fair-style food, and live music from Blueprint, DJ Zeke Thomas, and others. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit local anti-hunger campaigns. For more info, visit midwesttomatofest.com. 18+. (Photo by Sue Bussa)
