Midway on my Mind: A Guided Tour of University Avenue
Curious about the nooks and crannies of St. Paul's Midway neighborhood? The area is home to the Turf Club, Midway Book Store, and Midtown Sound, as well as many other small businesses. This Saturday, punk poet Paul D. Dickinson, co-host of Riot Act Reading Series, will lead a fun and informative walking tour along University Avenue. He will be telling stories of the thoroughfare's past, including an inside look at St. Paul's music scene, in addition to touching on topics such as gentrification and car culture. The tour, which will include research from the Minnesota Historical Society's Aleah Vinick, will explore AxMan, the lot formerly known as Porky's, and other historic locales, with stops for refreshments and snacks at Trax Bar and the Turf Club. The event is sponsored by Irrigate, an organization that seeks to encourage community interaction along the Central Corridor light rail line during construction.
