Mid-Autumn Moon Festival
We are fast approaching the time of the year in which the moon is at its brightest. In China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Vietnam, families traditionally get together to mark the event: The full moon is considered to be lucky, as well as a symbol of peace and harmony. Though it is not scheduled to be full this weekend, guests can celebrate anyway at this family-friendly festival put together by the Landmark Center. Children are invited to create miniature storybooks and lanterns, as well as listen to storytelling about the traditional holiday. There will be Vietnamese treats for sale, including moon cakes—small, dense pastries filled with a sweet paste. At dusk, be sure to light your lanterns and join the parade as it marches through nearby Rice Park.
Sun., Sept. 27, 4-6 p.m., 2009
