Michael Somerville

"My dad used to say, 'Nothing ever happens in this world the way you think it will,'" says comedian Michael Somerville. "Sure enough, that couldn't be truer of my career." He started out, simply enough, as a guy who just loved to tell jokes onstage. After a few years on the road developing his skills, he imagined perhaps hosting a late-night talk show. However, he discovered he had a knack for relationship comedy. "I was a regular old white guy who started out telling jokes about everything, then noticed that people were really responding to my relationship humor, both men and women." Somerville found it odd, as usually one gender is offended in that dynamic. "So I started going in that direction." That would lead to a stint with Glamour magazine as an advice columnist. Last year he hosted a reality dating show called Wingman on the Fine Living Network. Ironically, the vagabond lifestyle of the standup comic has kept him from settling down. "I'm in and out of relationships, searching for Ms. Right," he says. "I work nights and weekends." Of course a lot of folks, not just comics, are in that boat. "I have yet to figure it out," he confesses. "I have yet to crack the code." 18+; 21+ later shows.
