Michael Ian Black
Michael Ian Black is very famous. And if you don't believe him, his new Comedy Central special and album, both titled Very Famous, should clear up any confusion. You may know the smooth, boyish face of this self-described "jack of all trades, master of none" from any one of his many projects over the years, including sketch comedy troupes the State and Stella, as well as countless appearances smack-talking '80s and '90s pop culture on VH1's I Love the... series. This fall, he's back on the road and bringing his standup to the Varsity Theater to discuss a variety of topics, ranging from how much his children have disappointed him to his bloody stool. At least, that's what one can gather from his album. If you ask him, the answer is a bit different. "I'll be doing a lot more sword swallowing and lion taming than I've done at past shows," he says. "I'm sure you know me from my white-tiger work, but you have no clue just how many white tigers I'm going to have at this show, and just how tame they'll be. I make them so docile and tame that you'll think they're fucking domesticated. And in my hands they are. But not in yours." If you don't grasp sarcasm, please be warned: Do not expect tigers. Also, if you don't get sarcasm you may want to stay home. 18+.
