Meredith Monk and Ann Hamilton: Songs of Ascension
Meredith Monk is a pioneer who has transformed music, dance, theater, opera, and film, but after more than 40 years at work it's clear that she continues to innovate with interdisciplinary creations that defy categorization. This weekend, she provides a preview into a new project, created with visual artist Ann Hamilton, a vocal ensemble, and instrumentalists. The work maps the theme of "ascension" across geography and time, leaving open the possibility for multiple layers of meaning. Monk's signature extended vocal technique will drive the piece, so expect to hear voices that ring together with elements of purity, capable of expressing the infinite possibility of human sound.
