MCAD Full Fashion Panic
Some clothing designers focus on creating pieces that are functional, others aim for glamour, while others prefer items that offer modern sophistication. For MCAD's Full Fashion Panic, mind-boggling whimsy and bold statement pieces seems to be the ultimate goal. For this fun runway event, now in its 10th year, designers are asked to draw inspiration from manga and anime, resulting in some awesomely unique looks. Past events have gleefully showcased styles paying homage to '70s space travel, steampunk, mod, and lolita styles, with pieces ranging from cool and highly wearable to eye-catching and best worn by someone like Lady Gaga. This year's mad sophisticates include Madkitsune Designs, Endorphinz by Payton, Kelly Keene, Punkktual, and Haus of Elle. The party, which is part of Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week, also serves as the kick-off event to Schoolgirls and Mobilesuits, a yearly academic conference exploring Japanese culture, anime, and manga.
