Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed

Remember a year or so ago when people started panicking because they believed that Mayan artifacts foretold our world's end? Well, that didn't happen. Regardless, the bits we do know about Mayan culture and society are incredibly interesting. The Science Museum of Minnesota's latest ongoing show, "Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed," explores the ancient civilization through artworks such as jade masks and stone sculptures, immersive architectural recreations including a model pyramid, religious items related to the practice of human sacrifice, and everyday objects like ink wells and tools. The exhibition, which is the largest of its kind, also offers hands-on activities that make learning more accessible. During Labor Day weekend a trip to the museum with the family will be even more affordable, as kids get in for free through September 2 (when you purchase at least one adult admission).
