Guitarist Mark McGuire started out with sedate Cleveland instrumental droners Emeralds, who disbanded a couple of years ago. But our best music databases show more than 30 McGuire releases across different formats since 2007. His signature move has always been a kind of serrated solo that strikes like lightning without accompanying rain, and February's Along the Way has some of those. The album bristles with mandolin and piano droplets on top of the nomadic guitar parts. It also comes with something like 8,000 words of liner notes, effectively answering all questions about the intent of McGuire's assembly-line productivity. With Jenny Hval, Wavepool.
