Lula Washington Dance Theatre
One of the most dynamic companies around, Lula Washington Dance Theatre was founded in 1980 with a $25 loan. That—plus vision, heart, and hard work—is what it took for Washington to build a company in South Central Los Angeles that is now recognized among the preeminent African American troupes. LWDT has toured the globe, and its repertory includes works by Donald Byrd, Donald McKayle, Katherine Dunham, and Washington, as well as two former Alvin Ailey dancers: Bernard Gaddis and Christopher Huggins. This is joyful, political, theatrical, powerful, no-holds-barred dancing influenced by jazz, hip-hop, and African movement. Don't miss an opportunity to see these high-flying artists in action.
