Lorca in a Green Dress
This weekend, Teatro del Pueblo and Pangea World Theater present Lorca in a Green Dress, a play by Cuban American playwright Nilo Cruz about the Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garía Lorca, who was persecuted for his political beliefs and sexual identity, and murdered by nationalist forces at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. The play draws from surrealism to explore Lorca's multifaceted personality, examining his childhood, beliefs, and emotions. Cruz, who was the first Latino playwright to win the Pulitzer Prize, for Anna in the Tropics in 2003, has been compared to Lorca in his writing style. This production features music by Scott Mateo Davies and flamenco dancing by Virginia "La Chispita." The cast includes Evelyn Digirolamo, Rolando Martinez, Matt Rein, Andrea San Miguel, David Schlosser, David Otto Simanet, and Ricardo Vázquez. (Photo by Nancy Wong)
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 4 p.m. Starts: April 12. Continues through April 28, 2013
