Live and Local
Co-producers Nicholas Anthony and Jeremy Bjornberg are teaming up with Summit Brewing Co. for a night of homegrown music and comedy with Live and Local, the first installment of what they hope to be a regular series spotlighting Minnesota-bred artists. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show kicks off at 8 p.m. when host Anthony, winner of the Las Vegas Comedy Festival, brings up two of Minneapolis's top comics, Gabe Noah and Erik Allen. Noah is a wry, raw comic whose bombastic act fuses Rat Pack swagger with Charles Bukowski's acid observations, and Allen, the 2007 winner of Acme's Funniest Person in the Twin Cities contest, smartly blends the personal and the surreal. Following the comedy are sets from Grammy-nominated, soulful folk-rocker Matthew Santos, acoustic alt-rockers Two Words, and City Pages' 2008 R&B Artist of the Year, the New Congress. Anthony says he wants to "bring music audiences to comedy, and comedy audiences to music"—oh, and stage a bikini contest in between. "Local music, local comedy, brought to you by a local beer," Anthony says. "It's a celebration of everything local."
