By now, you would think everyone who wanted to would have taken in at least one showing of this landmark Boublil and Schönberg musical. There have been a multitude of tours, albums, special broadcasts, and now even a film with a singing and dancing Wolverine starring as Jean Valjean. This return engagement of Les Misérables, however, presents the freshened-up 25th anniversary production of the show, which strips away a lot of the excess of the original production for something that gets a bit closer to the core of the story and the music. In other words, the stage won't be constantly spinning before your eyes. Instead, the new setting uses a design inspired by author Victor Hugo's paintings. The whole evening has a grittier feel than the more familiar touring and Broadway stage version. This edition played to great acclaim at the end of 2011, and returns for a mid-summer run. The company includes Peter Lockyer as Valjean, Andrew Varela as Javert, and Lauren Wiley as Cosette. (Photo by Kyle Froman)
